In 1964 Raymond L. Lutgert began a visionary project that transformed 760 acres along the Naples beachfront into one of the most prestigious communities in Florida. Park Shore was the first Planned Unit Development in the state and has served as a model for subsequent development. Lutgert’s innovative thinking, his respect for the environment and the uncompromising beauty of his finished product became the foundation of The Lutgert Companies’ success. Bonita Bay began as the dream of another visionary, David Shakarian.
The founder of General Nutrition Corporation envisioned a place where people and nature could coexist harmoniously, and he quietly acquired Bonita Bay’s 2,400 acres in 1979, when Bonita Springs was little more than a fishing village. Shakarian died in 1984, but his family developed Bonita Bay true to his vision, with a strong commitment to environmental stewardship, innovative land planning and ecological preservation.
In the mid-1990s, Bonita Bay Group launched a partnership with The Lutgert Companies to develop eight luxury high-rises along Bonita Bay’s western boundary, overlooking Estero Bay and the Gulf of Mexico. Today, the Lutgert family’s vision and passion for excellence runs three generations deep. Raymond’s son, Scott, and his grandson, Kurt, continue to set the standard for the development of luxury properties, with projects in Southwest Florida and Linville Ridge, North Carolina.
